Our prices are based on industry cost guides from sources including Checkatrade, Heatable, and Boiler Guide, adjusted for local cost of living using data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings.

We cross-reference multiple sources for each trade to ensure our base prices reflect realistic market rates. Where data from multiple sources conflicts, we take a weighted average that favours the most recent and comprehensive datasets.

Every cost guide starts with a set of national base prices -- a low, average, and high estimate for each type of job. These represent the typical range you would expect to pay across the UK as a whole.

To calculate local prices, we apply a per-city cost multiplier derived from ONS earnings data. Cities where wages are higher than the national average (like London at around 24% above) have a multiplier above 1.0, meaning service costs are proportionally higher. Cities with below-average wages have a multiplier below 1.0.

This approach reflects the reality that service costs closely track local wages and cost of living. A boiler installation in London genuinely costs more than the same job in Newcastle, and our multipliers capture that difference with real data rather than guesswork.
